Acoustics of Suction Mufflers with Multiple Chambers

چکیده

In recent years there has been a growing focus on reducing the suction noise from hermetic household compressors. One approach is to reduce the transmitted sound power through the suction muffler at particular frequencies. In order to better control the acoustic performance of the muffler, a large variety of muffler designs have emerged. Most notably is the appearance of mufflers with two or more chambers which are often connected in series. In this study, the acoustic effects of introducing multiple chambers in series are investigated by use of boundary element and transfer matrix methods. General conclusions are given on the acoustic performance of mufflers with identical and different chambers in series.

Recent Advances in Muffler Acoustics

Exhaust noise in engines has always been a major source of automotive noise. Challenges for muffler design have been constraints on size, back pressure, and, of course, the cost. Designing for sufficient insertion loss at the engine firing frequency and the first few harmonics has been the biggest challenge. Most advances in the design of efficient mufflers have resulted from linear plane wave ...

Reduction of the Compressor Inlet Infrasound Emission

The infrasounds attenuation is inefective mainly because of the lon~ sonic wave diffraction, so that the reduction of the infrasounds source is the only acceptable method. Unfortunately low frequency pressure pulsation has the great influence on the compressor operation. -Each change in suction line results in change of compressor volumetric efficiency. The paper presents examples of numerical ...

Investigation of the efficiency of various reactive mufflers by noise reduction and transmission loss analyses

Transmission loss and noise reduction of reactive mufflers are determined by linear acoustic theory and unsteady flow field study, respectively. The effects of extending the inlet tube of the muffler, adding holes to the extension, and the number of holes on both transmission loss and noise reduction are investigated. In noise reduction analysis, the Navier-Stokes equations and k-ε model are us...

tube-extended mufflers within specified back pressures using a particle swarm method

Research on new techniques of single-chamber mufflers hybridized with an internal extended tube has been addressed; however, the research work on a space-constrained multi-chamber muffler hybridized with multiple internal extended tubes which may increase the acoustical performance within a specified back pressure has been ignored. Therefore, the analysis of a sound transmission loss (STL) for ...
